Home-grown documentary about legendary Kiwi group Shihad, chronicling their two decade rise to greatness.

"NZ's most successful rock band took their dreams all the way to the giddy heights of the US music scene. A terrorist attack, ill-advised name-change and swift-talk managers saw those dreams fall apart at the seams in one fated moment in LA's notorious 'Viper Room'.

"After multiple best-selling albums and a bond that has endured for over 23 years this documentary examines the notions of family, loyalty and success for four friends that almost took the biggest music industry in the World by storm." (TheFilmCatalogue.com)

Directed by Sam Peacocke (feature debut)

5 May 2011 - Details on The Adults album

It has been announced Jon's Solo project will release a self title album on the 20th of June. There is a three part series of videos on the Adults filmed by Zoe McIntosh and part one can bee seen on Stuff

Below is the press release from Warners:

The Adults Header.jpg The Adults Banner.jpg

After 22 years at the helm of New Zealand’s most loved rock band, Shihad frontman Jon Toogood has built up a treasure trove of musical connections. Lucky for us they have now collided, resulting in one hell of a project.

With a vast collection of musical ideas and a bit of downtime, Jon began work on a project which has now become The Adults, a celebration of his work with some of New Zealand’s brightest talents and an iconic Kiwi album in-the-making.

The Adults are Jon Toogood (Shihad), Tiki Taane, Shayne Carter (Straightjacket Fits/Dimmer), Anika Moa, Ladi6, Julia Deans, Gary Sullivan (JPSE/Dimmer), Nick Roughan (Skeptics), Ruban & Kody Nielson (The Mint Chicks), Warren Maxwell (Trinity Roots/Little Bushman), Ricki Gooch (Trinity Roots) Redford Grenell (Shapeshifter) and Steve Bremner.

With their debut, self titled album set for release on June 20, The Adults have given us a preview of what is to come with the tasty sweet soul of ‘Nothing To Lose’ which has gone on to become a #1 Alt radio hit and YouTube favourite http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fx6G0NGZJxU

‘One Million Ways’ (the first official single) is one of the many standout tracks – infectious and epic in equal measure. Other highlights include the Anika Moa lullaby-esque ‘Sleep Me Tight’, good friend Julia Deans on the optimistic ‘New Beginning’ and co-pilot Shayne Carter on ‘Most Important’. The result is a collection of songs - beautiful in its eclecticism.

10 April 2001 - Shihad Playing London in June at the Southern Sounds Festival

Shihad will be playing at the inaugural Southern Sounds Festival. Shihad will be in the UK for this date solely and will not be playing any other gigs while they are over there. The Southern Sounds Festival appears to be a new festival on the London calendar which brings together NZ, Aussie and South African bands for the ex-pat community. Currently Shihad will be supported by INXS and Town Hall Steps, given that the festival is nine hours long we are guessing that more bands will be joining the line up.
